Botox® versus Xeomin®

Botox® versus Xeomin®| Nava Medical Aesthetics

Botox and Xeomin (pronounced “zeo-min”) are both injectable neurotoxins that are used to treat wrinkles and facial lines. Both of them contain the active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A, which blocks the nerve signals that cause muscle contractions, which then reduces the intensity of wrinkles formed from facial expressions (so forehead lines appear smoother).

The main difference between Botox and Xeomin is that Botox (the original botulinum toxin) contains additional stabilizing proteins, while Xeomin only contains the botulinum toxin type A. This means that Xeomin is a “naked” form of botulinum toxin without any additives. Some people prefer Xeomin because it is considered a purer form of neurotoxin and may have fewer side effects, such as allergies or resistance. Additionally, the onset of action may be slightly different between the two products. Some people may see results more quickly with Xeomin, while others may see results more quickly with Botox. Both are very effective for treating wrinkles and facial lines.

Ultimately, the decision on which brand to use comes down to individual patient factors and preferences, as well as the judgment of the physician doing the injections. It is important to discuss your options with us to determine the best treatment plan for your specific needs.
